I was so lucky to sit 3 people down from her during a lunch break of filming the Flintstones. Her skin absolutely glowed and was very beautiful in person. I wish I had the guts to just say hi to her but instead I literally ran into John Goodman with my lunch tray and spilled food. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I have read that many people are wondering abot her weight gain. She was recently diagnosed asa Type II Diabetic. You're entire diet must change and the first year when you're trying really hard it's hell getting the right amount of protein, carbs, fat etc... right. You end up GAINING even more weight. When you figure it out you lose it again. The thing is insulin is fattening. 6  out of 6 found this valuable. Do you?

Oh my God I spelled everything wrong. However I'd bet money that this is the source of her weight gain. You must eat five small meals a day and it takes a lot of getting used to the "small" part. For example 5 crackers and some cheese doesn't fill you up much. So the temptation that first year is to say "This is not enough food." Consequently you eat a little more. For me at least it meant more food and more insulin. Both of which are fattening.

Reguardless, she is delightfully awesome and the weight gain doesn't lessen any of that, she's still amazingly fabulous and remarkably perfect for this part. It actually ads to how her life has been out of control with prison and all. Do you find this valuable?

I agree completely, I just kept reading about people speculating that she was as big as a house etc... etc... She's a type two Diabetic. If so you LOSE weight without enough insulin. Now that she's probably on oral hypoglycemic agents helping her to utilise the insulin she is still making; she's gained weight. When you're low on insulin production your body starts burning its fat reserves and you lose tons of weight. This is why prior to insulin and OHA's people died of this disease. But soon enough she'll get it squared away; it takes time. Also I adore the entire cast and Celia is a standout. She does a terrific job with that role. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

It's great to hear she will be fine! Thanks! Elizabeth Perkins and Mary Louise Parker have been two of my favorites since I saw "About Last Night" and "The Client". They are awesome in those movies and I try to see everything they are in and I love Weeds! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I love them too. Elizabeth Perkins is a special inspiration to me because I found out I was a diabetic around the same time she did. She mentions in an article I read that she wasn't well for years and no one could figure out what she had. I went through the same thing and like her when my disease was discovered my sugar was through the roof! But she talked about how she was coping and it made me feel better. I didn't feel like such an alien and am starting to get the hang of the whole thing. If Elizabeth Perkins can do it, I can too! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Just as a matter of clarification. Elizabeth has type1 diabetes (the kind generally developed in children)and has been for a few years. There are several articles explaining her denial and depression. She is definitely insulin dependent and her metabolic system is VERY challenged at this point. Its gotta be tough. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I swore she was a Type II. Oddly enough I used to be a Sales Rep for the company who invented insulin. If she is in her thirties now and was somewhere in her twenties when she got it that could make sense because I've seen that happen. The weird thing is how they didn't spot it right away. When you eat your body pumps out inulin which then meets your food, now glucose at the cell site. Insulin opens the door for the glucose to convert itself into energy, when there is no one there to optn the door your body burns it's fat reserves for energy and basically you lose weight like a house on fire. Your breath may smell fruity, urnine will contain sugar crystals and the excess sugar will blur your vision because it will be scraping the walls of the veins in the eye. So given all those obvious symptoms you'd think they'd have diagnosed it easily. The only thing that I can imagine happening is that she had another condition masking the symptoms, she's really a Type II or she was so bad at the time they caught it that she went straight to insulin. If I recall the article stated her blood sugar around that time was 500. Max is 140 or so, mine was 300. At any rate I certainly understand the denial aspect because I cried for MONTHS after being diagnosed. because it is a killer and a big hassle. You have to change your eating habits completely, you have to change what you eat, when you eat, how much you eat. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
